Job Description:
The Global Cold Chain[1] Alliance (GCCA) is an alliance of four international business associations comprised of companies within the food storage and logistics industry. These associations are considered "Core Partners" of the Alliance: · International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW) · World Food Logistics Organizations (WFLO) · International Refrigerated Transportation Association (IRTA) · International Association for Cold Storage Construction (IACSC)
Over the last 15 years, GCCA has been called upon by numerous US government and donor agencies to lend expertise to international development projects that have a focus on agriculture and food logistics. Through our work on various international projects, GCCA has helped to improve and strengthen cold chain systems in developing and emerging market economies.
Recently, GCCA has been contacted by several USDA and USAID-funded projects to provide advice and technical expertise in refrigerated warehouse design, engineering and construction.
GCCA is looking for cold store construction/design engineers who may be willing to travel to countries in Africa, Eastern Europe/Central Asia, Latin America and the Middle East for up to 15 days on short term consulting assignments. Currently, GCCA has been approached to provide engineering experts to provide assistance on existing US government funded projects in Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, and Pakistan.
Consulting Assignments may include completion of the following tasks: · Assess the efficiency and effectiveness of existing refrigerated warehouse/pack house facilities; · Write a 5-7 page report summarizing assessment findings and recommendations for new cold storage facility designs; · Assist local engineers/project staff in developing designs for improved product flow and reduce postharvest bottlenecks within existing cold storage facilities; · Assist local engineers/project staff with designs for new cold storage facilities in selected areas · Propose new, appropriate, cost-efficient equipment necessary to effectively/efficient run a cold store facility; · Provide advice to existing cold storage operators on improvements to facilities, processing flow, equipment sourcing options. Shortlisted candidates will receive a more specific project scope of work for further review and comment.
Note: All travel, accommodations, security and local transportation arrangements will be paid for and managed by WFLO and the project staff based in-country. Experts will be compensated for their time based on a mutually agreed-upon daily rate.
