After the success of the 2008 program with over 160 participants,
the Executive Committee of the European IARW/WFLO Council has chosen
the Dutch capital again as the 2009 meeting place for the European
refrigerated warehousing and distribution industry.
As
the theme suggests, besides attention for many
operationally-oriented subjects that influence the daily performance
and the operational costs, industry leaders will share their
experiences with green and sustainable policies and discuss whether
these are just marketing issues that cost you money or aspects that
contribute to your business success and therefore deserve the
attention of the management.
Representatives from food retail, food service and leading frozen
food manufacturing companies will speak about today’s market,
but will also look at the future role of 3PLs in the cold supply
chain. Furthermore, successful new logistic concepts will be
presented during the Plenary Strategic Session on Monday morning.
Continuing the approach that was introduced in 2008, there will be
much attention for subjects that directly influence both performance
and operational costs, and that occupy the minds of executives,
senior and middle management in cold storage, transportation and
distribution. Possible topics are: liability and insurance,
reefer logistics, energy efficiency and saving, customer service
excellence, ports and shipping, update on EU regulations, ´going
East´, trends in the market, refrigeration technology, etc.
On
Tuesday morning there will be Focus Sessions, based on two of the
themes mentioned below.
Health, Safety & Crisis Management in logistics
Still too many accidents occur in the cold storage industry.
Information, training and education are essential for prevention,
but what role can equipment suppliers play?
-
Women in logistics operations
Automation and mechanization help to reduce the problem of finding
qualified staff, but logistics will always be a typical “people’s
business”. Good personnel is an asset. What can dedicated HR
management contribute and what not?
-
ERP, WMS, TMS and smart innovations that reduce warehouse
labor costs
Examples of how specialized software can optimize certain warehouse
and distribution processes to reduce costs and how to integrate them
into the existing IT system
Traditionally, the program features a networking dinner on Monday
night, which offers excellent opportunities for establishing new
business contacts, and a trade show for suppliers to the industry.
This trade show takes place on Monday (all day) and Tuesday
(morning). Free continental breakfast and the breaks will all
be in the exhibition area on both conference days. On Tuesday
afternoon an interesting refrigerated warehouse and/or distribution
center will be visited.
All
of this are great occasions to discuss business and exchange ideas
with international colleagues, in order to take practical and
valuable information home.
