EU proposes new regulations for frozen food of animal origin |
|
Following meat labeling scams in Northern Ireland, Germany
and Holland, the European Commission has proposed several
changes to regulations for meat and meat products. The
proposal requires food business operators, including all
cold stores, to make available to the receiving food
business operator and, on request, to the competent
authority, the date of production or the date of slaughter.
Also required will be the date on which the food was
initially frozen or refrozen and the date of minimum
durability.

European Parliament takes cabotage plans step further |
|
The European Parliament wants to liberalize the cabotage
rules more drastically than initially planned. In the new
plan, foreign truckers can make 3 trips in 7 days in the
country of delivery, starting in 2009 instead of 2014. After
that, cabotage will gradually be lifted to maximum 7 journeys
in 7 days from 2011 and full liberalization from January 1,
2014. Big trucking nations like Germany and the Netherlands
welcome the new proposal, but the UK transport sector feels
it could be disastrous. |
